The Journey- Uncut diamonds and goldmines

30/10/19

This is my front seat view as my family and I headed to akure airport. I had recently took part in a village outreach for Liberty making people free in Ogbomosho. Liberty is a Christian charity that is based in the UK and Nigeria primarily. They provide food, clothes and medical care to the locals that come to the site where they camp for a few days. They also preach to them and provide counselling for those that want it. It was an experience where I felt like a sponge absorbing everything that was going on around.

On our way to the airport I sat at the front of the car. We were cruising down the road and I was taking in the scenery. I started to look at the forests alongside me. I saw layers of cinder blocks created by some labourers. I saw healthy looking trees. My instant thought was that I was cruising past a goldmine. All these natural resources are there and ripe for use as various materials, food and medication.

The five year time skip had truly allowed me to experience my trip to Nigeria in a different light. Before before if it had been like my routine yearly trips, it would have been a boring experience. Whilst not too much happened that was different, outside of liberty, I guess as they say… time away makes the heart grow fonder. Not for me though, but for those such as church members over there that haven’t seen me for a while, they were very welcoming. I had conversations with people rather than the usual “hi and bye” because I was the Pastor’s son.

One of my take always from that trip is that I had really taken life in the UK for granted. So many people over there wish for certain opportunities to be afforded to them and they’re brewing with passion. It reminded, I missed that drive and ability to dream.
